Magic is Science

Magic is Science was an art collective I co-founded with two other artists (2010–2012) to bring a pop-culture-infused art show to the Atlanta scene. We set out to break away from the typical wine-and-cheese events and instead created an atmosphere with beer, cookies, and a real magician. As the collective grew, so did the number of shows. Our themes ranged from Doctor Who and The NeverEnding Story to Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, and retro video games. Below are a few of my contributions to these memorable events.

Atreyu Action Figure

A major toy line was never created for The NeverEnding Story, leaving children of the '80s (and beyond) unable to recreate their favorite—often traumatic—scenes from the film, like Falcor flying, Bastian shouting “Moonchild,” or Artax drowning. What if there had been a toy line? The creation below is my submission to the “what ifs” of the past, reimagining those iconic moments as toys for a generation that never got the chance to play them out.

  • Auryn

The Auryn was printed and cut out using a standard hole punch. Gold string was then glued to the back.

  • Kenner Style

Packaging design was based on the original Kenner Star Wars figures which debuted in 1977.

  • Repaint

The figure was a repainted 3 3/4" scale figure produced by Gabriel.

  • FREE Gmork

The Gmork give-away promo was visualized by using an image of a Chronicles of Narnia Wer-Wolf figure
